Ms. Amanda Waugh, Certified Dental Assistant

Certified Dental Assistant: Position & Responsibilities

Amanda Waugh is the primary Dental Assistant at Longworth Dental. She is directly involved with patient care, along-side Dr. Barr. By seating patients, sterilizing instruments, mixing dental materials, taking x-rays and providing oral evacuation during dental treatment, she prepares patients for procedures and ensures their comfort.

Education & Experience

Amanda was born in Scarborough, ON. At age 6, her family moved to Bowmanville. Moving here has made her love the small town feel, and as the town has developed, so has she. While attending high school at St. Stephen’s Secondary School she was very interested in the dental field. She spent a lot of her time at the dentist having fillings, extractions and root canals done, so she thought she should learn about how teeth decay and what kind of things are done to maintain the health of your teeth.

Amanda enrolled at Durham College, graduating in 2010 from the Dental Reception and Administration course. After a couple months she decided she wanted to learn a little more about dentistry. She then returned to Durham College and graduated from the Dental Assisting program. Following this, she wrote her National Dental Assisting Examining Board (NDAEB) test. This allows her to be certified to provide particular intraoral patient care such as: coronal polishing, impressions, and pit and fissure sealants. She is also part of the Ontario Dental Assisting Association (ODAA), where she has resolved to further her education as dentistry continues to evolve.
