Dr. Sharon Barr, Dentist

Dr. Sharon Barr is the owner of and primary dentist for Longworth Dental. She graduated from one of the top universities in Canada and has been practicing for almost 5 years. Dr. Sharon ensures our patients receive the highest level of dental care. Keep reading for more on her education and experience!

Education & Experience

Dr. Barr (née Chandrasegaram) graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology with a chemistry minor (B.Sc.) from Mount Saint Vincent University in 2004.

During her time at MSVU, she was on the Dean’s List every year, and was awarded the Louyse Drouin Kennedy Jubilee Scholarship (2001), the In-Merit Scholarship (2002), the Leading Women Scholarship (2003) and the L. McDonald Memorial Award (2004).

Her interest in oral health led her to study dentistry at McGill University in Montreal. During her time there, she participated in a number of public outreach programs, where she manifested a particular talent for working with children. She won the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Award (2008) before graduating with a Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD).

Thereafter, Dr. Sharon went through the Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Residency Program at the Eastman Dental Centre in the University of Rochester, NY. During that time, she worked on implant cases and third-molar surgical extractions in addition to her regular responsibilities.

Since then, Dr. Sharon worked at the Labrador Dental Clinic in Goose Bay, NL, before starting her own practice in Bowmanville.
